  • What is the Georgia legislative session?

One of the largest state legislatures in the nation, the Georgia General Assembly, composed of the House of Representatives and the Senate, meets from January until late March to set the state's annual operating budget and to propose laws on a variety of topics from education to environmental protection.

  • How often does the Georgia legislature meet?

The Georgia Constitution also provides that the General Assembly shall commence session on the second Monday in January of each year, for a period of no longer than 40 days in the aggregate. Typically, session runs into late March or early April because of formal adjournments that make 40 “session days” non-consecutive.
